Instagram Reels have recently been the hot topic when it comes to social media. Currently, Instagram is algorithmically favouring Reels and serving them to more users because they’re competing with TikTok. So, adding Reels should be added to your social media content rotation.
Here’s how you create the best Instagram Reels to reach the maximum amount of people possible.
Be interesting.
Before anything, you should pick a topic that would appeal to people. It’s a very simple point to keep in mind, but hard to execute. There’s so much content out there that you have to keep this point at the top of your mind when thinking about creating a Reel.
High quality visuals.
Are your videos and pictures in high enough resolution? Are they edited properly to not be too dark? Are the colours vibrant? Make sure to utilize a video or photo editing software to edit your visuals to have a good production value. You are sure to garner more views if it looks good.
Not too fast, not too slow.
The timing of the content in your Reel video has to run at a good pace. You don’t want to bore people with it being too slow, you also don’t want the content to be too fast for people to follow. In both cases, you will lose people’s attention and they’ll swipe onto the next Reel. If you’re talking in the video, you should double check by listening to your recording. If you’re using video cuts and/or text, you should read it out loud to ensure a good pace as well.
The first 3 seconds are important.
Research shows that the first 3 seconds of any video on social media determine whether you’ll capture the viewer’s interest or not. During these crucial few seconds, consider asking the viewer a question, or summarizing what the rest of the video will be about.
Add music.
Instagram offers an array of music to add to your Reels. Usually, if your video contains copyrighted music from before, it’ll get flagged and removed. So, it’s good to not have any music when you’re creating your video, then add it at the end.
Another trick you can employ is to time the cuts of your video to the beat of the music, which would make it a more pleasing experience for the viewers.

Sometimes, people don’t have their audio on. They might be scrolling through Instagram in their office or during their commute, or they could simply be listening to music. So, it’s important to add captions in the video alongside any speech audio that you might have.

Performing skits are a light and playful way of getting your point across. All the cool kids are doing it these days. This keeps the viewer engaged and entertained with your content. Adding comedy to it also ensures that the viewer is entertained.
Call-To Action at the end.
When appropriate, entice the viewer to do something at the end of your Reel. Do you want them to contact you? Do you want them to go on a webpage? Or do you simply want them to answer a question? Think about what you want them to do pertaining to the content of the Reel and make sure to add it at the end.
